Composite Image

Now that you have created a composite photo from web images, create a composite image using your photos. If you want to add an object/subject that would be hard to photograph, you may find it on the web or in a book, but the majority of the imagery must be yours. The image will consist of a background and five additional layers. Do not flatten. Save as PSD or TIFF. Then resize and Save As jpg for your blog.
Image size = at least 8x10 at 200 PPI
REMEMBER! You must use appropriated imagery that challenges copyright issues and the idea of Fair Use.

Cockamamie Current Event

Using the tools and techniques learned in class, change the meaning of a news, advertising or current event photo by adding or subtracting information. Consider image quality. Don't use the first image you find of a given subject. Use of low quality images will lower your grade as much as poor compositing techniques. The final image should be between 5x7 and 8x10 inches at 200 pixels per inch. Save as PSD and keep your layers.

Return of the Scanner Face

Scan your face pressed up against the canner and save as a JPG. After importing and locking the photo to the illustrator file, use the pen tool to create an illustrated self-portrait. Remember to take advantage of opacity to create subtle tonal changes. The illustration will be viewed without the photo, so make it good.
Remember to export a JPG and upload it to your blog before class. I will collect the AI file in class.

Feel of the City

For next week continue exploring and gathering. I'd like you to build a library of images that fit the theme of "Feel of the City". Think of peeling paint, street lights, graffiti, vacant lots, the sky line, etc.
Upload the photos to a new gallery in your Picassa account. These images will be used for later projects including the mid-term, so continue to add to this gallery in the coming weeks. Also feel free to add sketches, rubbings and object scans as well.

Fall 2010

Welcome!
This semester each student will create a blog at blogger.com. You will be asked to create new posts weekly. The posts may be homework images, responses to readings or lectures, photo galleries, etc. You are also encouraged to post interesting things that find throughout the semester. Please keep this blog related to your Tyler experience and leave the social networking to other sites.
Homework: walk/ride/bike
Get out of the dorms and off campus and check out Philly! While you're out there, look around, breathe the not so fresh air, try new food, see some art and take 25-30 Photographs, create 3 sketches, gather 5 objects to scan.
Blog about the experience and what you discovered.
